Hi! :-)
I don't know if this is really a question and maybe it was a topic already: But is it normal, that the stockfish engine does terrible mistakes at level 4? I mean really stupid ones? Like not recapturing pieces? Mistakes, that not even a total beginner would make?
I have a rating of about 1600 in correspondence, so I usually play against Stockfish Level 4 (1600).
Of course an engine at this level is supposed to make mistakes somehow - but should Level 4, a rating of 1600, not be enough to not make totally ridiculous mistakes??
Shouldn’t it at least see a “mate in 1”?
Take a look at the ending of my last game:
I started with 1. e4 c5, because usually Stockfish Level 4 almost always plays Scandinavian as black after 1. e4. Why is that? Ok, I would understand Ruy Lopez or the Sicilian – but why Scandinavian?? Is there a reason for that?
As I wrote, I guess that is nothing that can be changed, but I would love to understand it. Stockfish at that level always plays a couple of really good moves and then suddenly a really, really bad one. Why?
