Hi.
I was playing in a tournament, I timed out in this game but the result is a draw. Why did this happen?
http://en.lichess.org/Afo3MY8eIf one side has insufficient mating material and the other side times out, it's a draw. Simply because had the game continued, white would have won or drawn anyway - there was no way for white to lose. If black had a single pawn, however, the game would have been lost on time because given enough time, there is a non-zero chance that black could still win.
Thank you Leapphrog for taking the time to answer.
It makes sense, but I was not aware those were the rules.
I wonder what would hae happened if black had a pawn on... lets say f4. I would dave to really blunder to lose the game. However it would not be impossile, and I would lose, right?
Right. Thanks. See you around!
