Interesting social commentary

You're not looking at the big picture. When I refer to the government, I'm not referring to our current government, I'm referring to the new one. If people had the control, why would they be shitty? And chasing profits is exactly the problem. Because to achieve those profits in a competitive work force, you have to keep prices low and therefore wages. But CEOs aren't the ones suffering. It's the working class people that suffer when corporations and not the people benefit.
I think it silly to imagine that profit chasing is a the only motivator for technological advances. That a certain system( that siphons as much as it can from any environment) is the best driving force for a sustainable world. That aside , it's the world we live in and it's what we have. Grab everything you can because the people at the top of the tree certainly are.
Without a doubt, when humans of the future look back on this time they will find it as ridiculous as the kings and queens of Medieval times .
Burn the witches who try speak against corporate money grabbing.
Ignoring crackpipechicken's post and looking at the next... It's certainly not the only motivator, but it is clearly the best one. Especially when you make the distinction between scientific advances and then taking the next step and implementing technological ones. Tesla vs Edison etc. What is your reasoning for thinking that's silly? You would have to ignore all of human history to say that. By the way, this is a commonly held view, Paul Krugman wrote an op-ed on this years ago.
To #10:
"Can you imagine how shitty the consumer market for autos would be?"
Lichess is the proof that you are wrong.
By goverment you have in mind the current forms of goverments (corrupted or totalitarian). That's past recalling, not thinking.
Imagine if Lichess was build based on past technology, it would have been like the shitty cheese.com
#14 care to explain your thoughts?
Lichess is not created by any government, and even if it was, one incident would hardly be "proof" of anything. Absent experimentation, you'd need to do statistical sampling to arrive at a significant result. These problems in your first sentence should be addressed before moving on to anything else in your post as they are frankly... even more difficult to make sense of.
#15 The conclusions of money driven advances is based on recent times when science became an art form and not the plaything of the rich and supernatural (as it was before). The fact it is a commonly held view (krugman and co) is irrelevant unless you want to ignore the rest of history where many massive commonly held views fell apart under experimentation. I cannot believe they can say otherwise without proper science based attempts at a better system. Lets just say the people who hold power do not want it to be tested simply because why change what is for them, not broken. The slavery and serfdoms of the middle ages still exists under the banner of money as opposed to under the flag of titles. It is hard to imagine it if you are not affected but its everywhere and not just in the poorer countries. But alas, the cries of those less fortunate serve only as a signpost.
Science is now an art form, instead of what it used to be -- a plaything of the rich and supernatural? What does that mean?!
Was wondering when that would be asked :) I was not so clear in what I meant
Art form - ie The scientific methods of different times and cultures became collectively shared and used in widespread way as to fine tune the worlds scientific methodology.
Rich and supernatural-In days gone by when science was only accessed by the very rich who had the time(plus passion) to pursue their interests . The supernatural is when you had witch doctors and priests using old science tricks under the guise of Gods and mystique.
Essentially I am suggesting that it is only in recent times that so much information has been available to so many and previous tries at other political systems were at a time when the populous were less educated and humans as a whole , understood ourselves less. To get back to my point, I think that its within human nature to want to explore and improve and the idea that the promise of ridiculous amounts of cash is the best motivator maybe true for some but for me, It is not where the best results would come from. More people having access to higher levels of education will always produce better results IMO
I can promise you( a meaningless promise) that our current world order will be considered to be as ridiculous and unjust (by the people of the future) as the world of Kings and Queens dictating by royal decree.
Problem: Meaninglessness, hopelessness, impotency.

Solution? You think you will change the world?
The Anonymous message of that piece is hardly a unique perspective: Think for yourself, question authority, question everything....these are empowering slogans for those who feel dis-empowered, but little else. These are ideas that should be taught to children, in their mass schooling, but instead they are practically taught the opposite.

Cptmajormajor is on the right track when he speaks of better education, but don't look for it in this lifetime.
