Do you have this same problem where a lot of times you are not playing online chess seriously at all? I guess it's some sort of defense mechanism. Losing hurts too much, it shatters my ego. So if I try some weird stuff for fun and then lose it's not as bad. But this also has negative impact on rating. Maybe the 2000 Elo players are just as good as 1000 Elo players but they are the ones who "try hard" so to speak? What do you think?

as a 2000 elo player, I can confirm that 2000 elo players are just as good as 1000 elo players, but we still dont "try hard".

as a 2200+ rating player i can confirm that 2000 guys dont tryhard and i also dont tryhard with lower rated i only tryhard if my opponent is titled player

as a 2200+ rating player i can confirm that 2000 guys dont tryhard and i also dont tryhard with lower rated i only tryhard if my opponent is titled player
like i can most of the times beat 2000 easily but some people go tryhard too

ultrabullet, hyperbullet and bullet
1000 just premove everything
2000 just plays a bit normal and mates 1000
3000 just plays like 700 elo and 7000 elo at the same time like they premove moves which have almost 0%chance to blunder and they give checks to opponents by knowing that its bad
