How do you prepare for playing chess

Hi, how do you decide during th eday when do you play online chess?

any specific time?

do you purposefully sit at the desk for chess playing or it comes in a spur of the moment, the desire to play?

I sometimes wish I could get into a routine. Every day at X some study then at Y some play. If I fail my puzzles then more puzzles instead of play or only unrated games.

Recently all my games are scheduled in advance (tournament games). I guess I should also play some spontaneous games via quick pairing but somehow there is always something more important to do.
